Nemanja Mate Djordjević

Nemanja Đorđević, alias Mate (1983, Belgrade) is a Serbian painter and draughtsman, and works as artist since 2008. His work explores contemporary surreal fantasy and nightmare, metamorphosis and the existence. According to the prominent French critic Jean-Luc Chalumeau, Mate belongs to the authors for whom ”images appear as nightmares, tormented artist existential anxiety”, then continues: “his style is edgy, sharp, final – it turns into a cry after the nightmares’ enlightenment”. This young artist was the recipient of the Vladimir Velicković Drawing Award (2009) as well as the Velicković, Award at the 47th Winter Show in Herceg Novi (Montenegro, 2014); the one year Residency at the Académie Française des Beaux-Arts studio, Paris (2014); Pierre David / Weill (2015); the Drawing Award of the French Academy of Fine Arts in Paris (2016); the Osten Drawing Award (2016); the Residency Award in Bern (2017). His work is in the collections of the Foundations Roux and Tronchet of the French Academy of Fine Arts and many others.
